1976 Constitution for the Hadeland Lag

The original constitution for the Hadeland Lag was lost. After its reactivation in 1976, a new constitution was written and adopted in 1983. It governed the lag from 1984 until, in anticipation of incorporation, new by-laws were adopted in 2005.

Article I

Name

The name shall be Hadeland Lag of America.

Article II

Purpose

The purpose of the Hadeland Lag of America shall be:

1) To further and maintain fellowship among descendants of epople from the Hadeland district of Norway

2) To maintain a bond between Hadelendings in America and Norway

3) To aid in the preservation of the best in Norwegian culture

4) To hold an annual meeting or other meetings as deemed advisable and necessary; to send delegates to meetings with other lags

5) To maintain communications among US Hadelandings thru a membership publication named BRUA which can include family or personal histories and other pertinent information regarding Norwegians and American Norwegians.

Article III

Membership

Any person of Hadeland, Norway descent, their husbands or wives and families may become members of the Hadeland Lag when paying annual membership dues.

Hadeland Lag membership shall be on an annual basis from January 1 to December 31 and the dues shall be $5.00 for an individual and $7.00 for husband and wife (family).

Article IV

Annual Meetings

A meeting of the Hadeland Lag membership shall be held annually at a time and palce determined by the board of directors, or decided by the membership. The annual meeting shall:

1) Elect a board of directors consisting of 5 members of the Hadeland Lag of America

2) Conduct business matters of the Hadeland Lag

3) Provide fellowship for Hadelandings

4) Preserve Norwegian culture and traditions for future generations

Article V

Board of Directors

A board of directors consisting of 5 members of the Hadeland Lag shall be elected annually at the annual meeting of the Hadeland Lag. The board of directors shall conduct the business of the Hadeland Lag between annual meetings.

The terms of the board of directors shall be staggered so that all director terms do not expire in the same year. Beginning in 1984, two directors shall be elected for three years; two directors for two years; one director for a one year term. Thereafter each director shall be elected fora term of three years.

Article VI

Officers

The officers of the Hadeland Lag shall be a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer and shall be elected annually from and by the board of directors.

The president shall conduct all meetings of the Hadeland Lag, prepare an agenda for board meetings and the annual meeting. He may represent the Hadeland Lag in other organizations where representation is agreed upon or required.
The vice president shall act in the absence of the president.
The secretary shall be responsible for keeping minutes of the Hadeland Lag annual meeting and of board meetings and maintaining an accurate membership record.
The treasurer shall be responsible for receiving and recording all income and expenditures of the Hadeland Lag and paying by check authorized expenditures as directed by the board of directors.

Committees may be created as deemed necessary.

Article VII

Conduct of Meetings

Roberts rules of Order shall apply to all meetings of the Hadeland Lag of America.

Article VIII

Amendments

The Hadeland Lag constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members of the Hadeland Lag present and voting at any annual meeting of the Hadeland Lag.
