7-Lag Stevne

Each July the Hadeland Lag joins six other bygdelags in hosting a joint multi-day gathering called the Seven-Lag Stevne (in Norwegian, 'stev-neh'):

The stevne schedule includes:

• Genealogy   Genealogists from the 7 Lags bring all of their materials to the stevne. Members can utilize each lag's extensive collections of print, microfilm and computerized resources. Each lag has knowledgeable genealogists available to assist you with your "genea-snooping." In addition, genealogy classes offer guidance to both novice and experienced researchers.
  

• Culture  Class sessions cover a broad range of historical topics and may also include instruction in traditional handcrafts like rosemaling, hardanger, and lefse making. Each year performers from Norway are invited to entertain at the Stevne.  In addition, talented American entertainers contribute to the Norwegian-themed festivities.
  

• Tours Group tours of point(s) of interest in the geographical area of the stevne are scheduled.
  

• Marketplace Exhibitors offer a wide variety of one-of-a-kind Scandinavian crafts, books, and apparel for sale.
  

• Annual Meeting  On Saturday, each lag conducts its annual meeting and has the option of planning an afternoon activity. Issues of interest and concern are discussed at the Hadeland Lag's morning business meeting. Lag officers are nominated and elected. A presentation, lunch and group activity usually round out this special "Hadelending time."
  

• Banquet The Stevne concludes with a banquet.  Members who own bunads (the traditional dress of Norway) show off their finest in the 7-Lag Bunad Parade.  Entertainment and dancing cap off this special gathering!
  

Stevner are often held on college campuses.  Lodging in the college dorms and on-campus meal tickets are usually available at an extremely reasonable (some might even say dirt cheap!) price.
