Nes Church
Nes church, located on the Nes farm in Brandbu, was built in 1730. "Nes" means headland, and the farm and church are located on the headlands of the Randsfjord. Among the interesting artifacts still in use in the church are its unique baptismal font and the beautiful altar.
There has been a church at this location since the Middle Ages. The current church replaced one made of stone. In 1722 the Norwegian government sold the state-owned churches to private individuals to make money. Two men, Christian Berg and Gregers Pedersen paid for the 1730 church. Some years later the church was sold back to the congregation.
Most of the furnishings from the old church were moved to the new church when it was built. A new pulpit was built for the new church in 1730. In 1863, new pews were installed and a balcony was built during a major restoration project. The funeral chapel was built on the grounds in the 1930's.
