2003 Stevne
July 9-12 Winona (MN) State University
Members of the seven lags met in Winona July 9-12. The genealogy library was open Wednesday evening, all day Thursday and Friday morning. In addition, genealogy lectures and computer lab instruction were available for participants. Registration, vending booths, videos (Kristin Lavransdatter and Cool and Crazy) and tours of the area were also available during this time. Friday at 2:30 pm in Somsen Hall the afternoon program began, featuring welcomes from presidents of the seven lags. Christine Midelfort, St Paul, Minnesota, presented her story of early Norwegian doctors who were part of her family. Pastor Ron Nowland presented a slide show entitled "Vikings in Istanbul." That evening we were entertained by the Winona Fiddlers, the Wegeland Dancers and Janet Martin, humorist and author. Saturday morning each individual lag met for its business meeting. Hadeland Lag members then participated in the bus tours which visited the Peterson Museum and a few of the local churches which were started by immigrant Norwegians. Lunch was served at the Highland Prairie Church in Fillmore County. We gathered back at Kryzsko Commons in the evening for the banquet, followed by a bunad parade, Sound Traditions barbershop quartet and Tina and Lina, singing comedians. From the August, 2003 Brua |
Honoring "Genealogist Emeritus" Leslie Rogne |
|
At the Hadeland Lag Annual Meeting, President Delores Cleveland presented long-time genealogist Leslie Rogne with a lifetime membership. Although he won't be handling day to day genealogy work, you're still likely to see him in the genealogy room at the 2004 stevne in Willmar, wearing a ballcap and golf shirt that proudly proclaim his new position as "Genealogist Emeritus."
|
Leslie and his "Lady Love" -- he didn't see her or their son-in-law arrive before the presentation and was delighted and surprised to find them there! |
After the presentation, a short break in the meeting and some Norwegian krinsekake and coffee provided an opportunity for all the members attending to wish Leslie well! |
